Paula Badosa came within two points of defeat before beating Daria Kasatkina 4-6, 7-6(7), 6-4 in Beijing on October 1, 2026. Their US Open first-round meeting had required nine Badosa match points.

Kasatkina was also Badosa’s first practice partner in Beijing. Badosa expected a tactical, physical contest and said she saw an opportunity as her opponent struggled late.

WTA placed the result after a Bastad 125 title, an Iasi final, a Hamburg semifinal and a São Paulo quarterfinal. Another close finish extended that summer recovery.
