Alejandro Davidovich Fokina won Shanghai’s third round without breaking Frances Tiafoe’s serve. His 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(6) victory on October 11, 2026 reached its decisive danger point at 5-6 in the final tiebreak.
He saved match point there and completed the tiebreak 8-6. Having taken the opening breaker 7-4, he won both tiebreaks to offset the absence of a service break.
Tiafoe held all 17 service games and saved the only break point he faced. Davidovich Fokina saved six of seven break points and held 16 of his 17 service games.
The two-hour, 47-minute match brought Davidovich Fokina his first top-10 victory of 2026. Tiafoe was World No. 10 in the tournament’s October 11 report; next for the winner was 2023 Shanghai champion Hubert Hurkacz.
