Iva Jovic beat Dayana Yastremska 6–4, 6–1 in Wuhan’s second round on October 14. After a first-round bye, she won her opening match in straight sets and reached the last sixteen for a second consecutive year.

The route had changed: in 2025 she qualified before reaching the same stage, whereas this year her draw began with a bye.

Her Beijing result had also improved. She lost her only match there in 2025, then won twice in 2026 before falling to Iga Swiatek in the last sixteen. Her second Asian Swing therefore included consecutive WTA 1000 last-sixteen appearances.

Next was a first tour-level meeting with Roland Garros runner-up Maja Chwalinska. Jovic said they had practised together once or twice and described the varied game she would face.
