Jelena Ostapenko defeated No. 11 seed Diana Shnaider 7–6(6), 6–1 in Wuhan’s October 16, 2026 quarterfinal. WTA’s official highlights description records a recovery from 2–5 in the opening set, with two set points saved along the way.
Ostapenko won that tiebreak 8–6. The opener needed extra points to establish a two-point margin; in the second set she surrendered only one game. The score became markedly more one-sided after the first-set escape.
WTA counted 32 Ostapenko winners in the match and 138 for her tournament to that point. It was her second WTA 1000 semifinal of 2026, after Doha, and her second in Wuhan, following 2017.
