Casper Ruud completed a set of quarterfinal appearances at all nine ATP Masters 1000 events by reaching the Shanghai last eight for the first time. His fourth-round progress on October 14, 2026 filled the remaining tournament in that record.
The match ended with Ruud leading the opening set 5-2. Felix Auger Aliassime retired with a knee injury, sending the 20th seed through. Afterwards, Ruud described noticing his opponent’s discomfort around the net early in the match.

The tournament’s October 14 report identified Ruud as the thirteenth active player to achieve the nine-event quarterfinal record. He joined twelve others including Novak Djokovic, Marin Cilic, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.
His quarterfinal opponent was 20-year-old Rafael Jodar. After beating Botic Van De Zandschulp 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2 that day, Jodar had won his first three Shanghai matches from a set down and held a 41-16 tour record for the season.
