Dayana Yastremska beat Coco Gauff 7–6(3), 6–1 in the Wimbledon first round on July 1, 2025, ending a 0–3 head-to-head record in 79 minutes. WTA’s report listed Yastremska at No.42 and Gauff at No.2 at the time.

Serving at 5–3 in the first set, Yastremska double-faulted on set point and again on break point. In the tiebreak, Gauff made two double faults within the opening six points and trailed 2–4. Yastremska then finished a set point at 6–3 with a volley.

Gauff made nine double faults in the match. Yastremska faced no break points in the second set as she completed the win, separating an earlier failed closing opportunity from the service games that followed.

Before Wimbledon, Yastremska had won six of eight grass matches, finishing runner-up in Nottingham and reaching the Eastbourne quarterfinals. This was her second victory over a top-two player after beating then-No.2 Karolina Pliskova at Wuhan in 2019. The 2025 grass preparation and the first-set recovery both belong in the explanation.
