A player can finish 2–1 in an ATP Finals group and still be eliminated. If three players go 2–1 and the fourth goes 0–3, the tied trio must be ordered for two semifinal places. The official rules checked on October 18, 2026 first compare wins, then matches played, with head-to-head used when only two players remain tied.
Eight singles players and eight doubles teams are each divided into two groups of four. Every participant plays the other three in the group. Group A’s winner faces Group B’s runner-up, and vice versa. Singles matches are best of three tiebreak sets, including the final; doubles uses two no-ad sets and a match tiebreak. An opening loss therefore still leaves two group matches.
The first ranking criterion is wins, followed by matches played. The official examples put a 2–1 record above 2–0, and 1–2 above 1–0. This covers equal-win situations involving different numbers of matches. When only two players remain level, the winner of their direct meeting takes precedence.
For three tied players, the rules proceed through percentage of sets won, percentage of games won and ATP ranking at the specified reference date. Set percentage divides sets won by all sets played. In an official example, 5–2 equals 5/7, about 71.43%, while 4–3 equals 4/7, about 57.14%. The leading player wins the group, and the other two use their head-to-head result to decide second place.
Another official example gives two players 5–3 in sets and the third 4–3. The first two have 5/8, or 62.5%, against 4/7, about 57.14%. The lower player is eliminated; the two remaining qualifiers use their direct meeting to decide group order. Once the comparison separates one player, the remaining pair return to head-to-head.
Each round-robin win earns 200 points, a semifinal win 400 and a final win 500. An undefeated title yields 3×200+400+500=1,500 points. Two group wins followed by semifinal and final victories yield 1,300. These are calculations from the official points table, rather than predictions for a player; group wins change the total even among champions.
Keep sets and games alongside match wins in a group tracker. On the final group day, count the tied players first, then apply the relevant sequence. The 2026 tournament runs November 15–22 at Turin’s Inalpi Arena. A single set can alter the order of semifinal qualification because it changes these ratios.
