Arthur Gea lost the first game of the fifth set, then won six in a row for his first US Open main-draw victory. The French Tennis Federation’s September 2, 2026 report recorded a 6-3, 2-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
Gea had lost in the final qualifying round before Casper Ruud’s withdrawal opened a lucky-loser place. Given that second opportunity, he recovered after dropping the middle two sets.

He was a break ahead in the fourth set when rain interrupted play. He took that set and completed the fifth 6-1, finishing after three hours and six minutes.
His first Grand Slam main-draw win had come in Melbourne in January. New York added another; at the September 2 report’s cutoff, he was awaiting the winner between Daniel Altmaier and Zachary Svajda.
