Arthur Gea beat third seed Ben Shelton 7–6(5), 7–6(3) in Shanghai’s third round on October 11. The two-hour, seven-minute victory gave the Frenchman his first top-10 win during his first Masters 1000 main-draw appearance.
Both sets required a response to a lost service game. Gea failed to serve out the first at 5–4 and was broken at 3–3 in the second, but recovered each time to reach a tiebreak. He then won both deciding sequences.

Moving forward helped him finish points. The tournament’s Infosys ATP statistics credited Gea with 20 wins from 28 net points, adding an attacking route alongside his work returning Shelton’s serve.
The result set up a fourth-round meeting with Jakub Mensik, who beat Francisco Cerundolo 6–3, 3–6, 6–2 the same day.
