Alejandro Davidovich Fokina beat top seed Alexander Zverev 5–7, 6–4, 6–3 in the Shanghai Masters semifinal on October 17, 2026. The two-hour, six-minute comeback earned his second Masters 1000 final, following Monte-Carlo in 2022.
He finished the second set with a running backhand pass, then broke early in the third in a game featuring a Zverev double fault. After missing two match points on return at 5–2, he completed the win in his next service game.

Wide serves towards Zverev’s forehand helped create opportunities as Davidovich Fokina improved their head-to-head record to 2–6. Including his Chengdu title run, he has won nine straight matches in China. Earlier in Shanghai he saved a match point against Frances Tiafoe.
He meets Rafael Jodar in the October 18 final at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center, scheduled for 16:30 China Standard Time, or 17:30 in Korea. A first Masters 1000 title awaits the winner.
