On court: press with mass, steer with feel

Control is the default setting. A 21.7 mm constant beam is on the thin side for a modern frame, and Solinco says it is designed for greater flexibility. A thin, flexible frame adds less rebound, but the ball seems to stay on the strings a touch longer, which makes depth easier to judge by feel. That is also why Tennis Warehouse rates the power Low. Even when you swing hard, the ball does not run away, so you can keep swinging aggressively all match.

Stability comes from mass. The 328 swingweight sits 11 points above Solinco's own Blackout V2 300 (317). The higher the swingweight, the harder it is for the incoming ball to knock the racquet off line, so the face holds when you redirect pace. Tennis Warehouse says it offers decent stability against big hitters while staying fast enough for aggressive all-court play, and that 40T carbon fiber at 3 and 9 o'clock reduces frame wobble on off-center hits.

The feel is solid but plush. Tennis Warehouse says the new Arch-2 layup boosts stability, comfort and power, and that Liquid Crystal Technology and strategically placed foam add to the plush, solid response. Measured stiffness of 65 RA is almost identical to the first-generation 2022 model (66), and swingweight moves just from 327 to 328. Tennis Warehouse calls it an incremental update rather than an overhaul, so if the original suited your hand, expect the same sensations from V2.

The price is preparation time. A high-swingweight frame takes more effort to accelerate, so in fast exchanges you can fall behind, and your swing can feel heavier late in a match. A 98 in² head also offers less margin on off-center hits than a 100, so on days when your contact wanders, its precision makes misses more obvious. Spin is there thanks to the 16×19 pattern, but it is spin you create with racquet speed, not spin the frame manufactures for you.

Strings and tension: use tension to add depth

Solinco recommends 45–50 lb. Tennis Warehouse extends the range to 45–55 lb for players who prefer higher tensions, but on a low-powered frame, extra tension tends to shorten the ball. Full-swing baseliners should start with Solinco Hyper-G in 1.25 mm at around 48 lb. If balls land short, drop 1–2 lb to recover depth; if that is not enough, step down to 1.20 mm.

To bring out the feel, try a hybrid of Babolat Touch VS natural gut in the mains and Hyper-G in the crosses. The gut adds pop and touch; the polyester crosses keep direction and durability. If your arm is sensitive, a full bed of Solinco X-Natural, a multifilament, is another good option. Softer strings generally add power and comfort and take away a little control, and on a frame with this much control, that is a trade worth making.

Customize from the handle first. At 328, the swingweight is already high, so lead in the hoop makes the swing heavier immediately; weight in the handle shifts balance toward your hand with almost no swingweight gain. String it per Solinco's instructions: mains skip 7T, 9T, 7B and 9B and tie off at 8B; crosses start at 5T and tie off at 6B. Polyester loses tension quickly, so when balls fly long or spin fades, restring.

Choosing within the line: 18x20, 290, XTD

With the same head, the biggest fork is the pattern. The Whiteout V2 305 18x20 lists at 305 g with a 325 mm balance, a little more mass toward the hoop, and Tennis Warehouse measures a 326 swingweight and 66 RA. The denser 18×20 lowers launch and sharpens direction at the cost of some spin. Flat drivers who like to stab the ball deep belong on the 18×20; players who use spin to clear the net belong on the 16×19.

If 305 g is a lot, the Whiteout V2 290 (290 g, 325 mm) keeps the same 98 head and 21.7 mm beam; Tennis Warehouse measures 303 g strung, a 315 swingweight and 65 RA, so it swings noticeably quicker. The V2 305 XTD keeps the weight and balance but stretches to 27.5 inches. For a bigger head and a spin-first personality, there is the sister Blackout V2 300 (100 in², measured swingweight 317).
