Daniil Medvedev began his 2026 Shanghai campaign by recovering from a set down. In the second round on October 10, he defeated Jan Lennard Struff 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

In the tournament’s October 10 report, this was Medvedev’s 31st hard-court victory of the season, then the tour-leading total. His 2026 titles in Dubai, Brisbane and September’s Hangzhou event had all come on hard courts.

The 2019 Shanghai champion was set to face Dalibor Svrcina next. He stood eighth in the Live Race in that day’s report, seeking a seventh ATP Finals appearance after missing qualification the previous year.
